Graze On Phoenix became the latest member of his family to win for owner breeder John Rowbottom at Carlisle on Monday night. Like all of his family he has been a late maturing type who actually started out under National Hunt rules before switching on to the flat.

This was his first start in handicap company and he found life a little easier than it had been of late in competitive maiden races. Despite coming off the bridle a little way from home Graze On responded well to Nicola Currie’s urgings to win by a length and quarter at the line. Going forward there should be plenty of options both on the flat and back over hurdles for the horse.
